About the Event
Plastic-Free Hackney & Leaside Trust Pollution Fishing 🛶
Last Sunday of the Month 9.45am -1pm Leaside Trust, Spring Lane, E5 9HQ
Plastic-Free Hackney are delighted to be partnering with our excellent neighbours Leaside Trust to get Pollution Picks on the water!
Leaside is generously loaning us 5 canoes for our clean ups through the Autumn, Winter and Spring months. Whoop!
Each canoe can take 2 people and will be set up with a plastic bucket in the middle to collect the pollution. Leaside will also provide the litter pickers.
Look forward to seeing you on the water!
Plastic-Free Hackney & Leaside
1. How it works / What to wear
Come to Leaside with a complete spare change of clothes and ideally some gloves. You will get wet! Please wear closed shoes, ie no flip flops or crocs. Dress appropriately for the weather, if it's sunny, a hat and sunscreen, if it's wet, waterproofs. An instructor will brief you on safety on the water and accompany your group to complete the pollution pick.
On return to Leaside the pollution will be brought back to land and the boat cleaned down and returned to store. You can then shower and change if you want to in our changing rooms. You may find it useful to bring a spare pair of shoes in case the ones you go out in get wet. Unfortunately we cannot accept children under 8 years of age.
2. How to book tickets
Tickets can be booked through Eventbrite, and availability is limited, so only book if you know that you're going to come. If plans change please cancel your ticket as soon as possible so we can ensure as many bodies are out there as possible removing the pollution. Leaside is generously loaning their canoes and staff for free. We ask for a £5 deposit to secure your ticket and discourage 'no shows'. If you'd like to use this opportunity to turn your deposit into a donation to Plastic-Free Hackney, we'd be very grateful!
3. Children
Can children go pollution fishing? Yes but they must be aged 8 or over. 1 adult can supervise 1 child. Make sure when you book, that you do so for 2 tickets. Also bear in mind there are only 2 spots in each canoe.
4. How to get to Leaside
The best way to travel to Leaside is to walk 500 metres along the canal from Leabridge Road or come down through Springfield Park from Stamford Hill. We are on the river next to Robin Hood Community Gardens and the allotments. The full address is Leaside Trust, Spring Lane, London, E5 9HQ NB: Leaside is not the Rowing Club.
5. Cancellations
Because these events require trained staff from Leaside to be present, it's important that we fill all the slots available. Consequently if you cancel your booking less than 48 hours before the event, we're afraid we won't be able to refund your £5 deposit.
6. Get in touch with Leaside
Any further queries please get in touch with the staff at Leaside - info@leaside.co.uk
